Innis and Gunn, an independent family owned brewery located in Edinburgh, Scotland has been making their signature oak aged beer since 2003. The origin of their flagship beer came about as the result of a happy accident. The initial idea was to create a whisky with slight beer flavors. To that end a beer was brewed to season the casks which would then house whisky, imparting some beer flavors. Once the beer came out and was sampled, the whisky idea was abandoned.
